If you love breathtaking beautiful beaches and parties till the morning then you are in the right place. I would be exaggerating saying that San Teodoro is Sardinia’s Ibiza, but comparing with the rest of the island, it is a true party city. It is also just an hour away from Porto Cervo, which is Italian take on St. Tropez style glamour, beauty and bling with Berlusconi’s villa, mega yachts and Maddalena archipelago.
San Teodoro is only 30 km from Olbia, which is the closest airport and port. Village itself is not that exciting, but the spectacular coastline perfectly fits fantastic beach hunting trip and equally great nightlife, keeps you up in the night.
The most famous beach is right in the village, you can actually walk to it. It is a 7km long super white sand beach with emerald color water. It has all the facilities and activities you can think of, but believe it or not, considering the lengths of the beach it is THE most busiest beach in the area. So yes, it’s great, but get ready for some spooning.
You want the same beauty, but less crowdy – no problem, 20km from San teodoro in a Budoni village, you will find a less busy version of La Cinta, with extremely tasty pizza’s made right on the beach. This is a true crowd pleaser beach amazing scenery, great food and you can enjoy your private space.
La Caletta beach
Going further South from San Teodoro, 30 minutes drive away was another great find, a much more relaxed long sandy beach. It’s even less crowdy, with another fantastic snack place on the beach, you just can’t stop enjoying the food, the sea and the fantastic weather.
Capo Coda Cavallo
Looking through our beach book, this little gem of San Teodoro looked like a postcard. Going up north 20 minutes away from San teodoro, this beautiful cove is facing amazing view with mountains. It is a dream. Well, it is a dream until you get on it, obviously this place is very popular, who wouldn’t lie to lay on the beach with this view. You almost need to queue to get on the beach. It is very narrow, and small, so good luck, but if only you would like to spend day standing, go somewhere else.
Liscia Ruja & Costa Smeralda
To get a glimpse of the beaches, where the rich& famous bring their ridiculously expensive yachts , we went for a day trip to Porto Cervo and Costa Smeralda beaches. This is the place, you can see money literally floating on the water. On a random beach, we arrived by following signs, we became spectators of a yacht parade starting with Manchester United football players super yacht (in the picture on the left) finishing with the most expensive and largest sailing yacht in the world Maltese Falcone (in the back of the picture), which can be rented for a week for a only 400, 000 eur + costs (which includes 9 people staff). So take the best spots just at the waterline, grab the excellent tomato&mozzarella salad and some panini’s from the van on the back of the beach and enjoy the view. Oh beach?…Almost forgot , it’s nice, but it’s pretty small (even it is supposed to be one of the longest in this area).
And just on the way back to Olbia, for a late evening flight, not as fancy as the rest but still a decent beach is Pittulungu, 10 minutes out from Olbia, you can watch ferries come and go and say goodbye to Sardinia with the last swim in the amazing waters of Mediterranean sea.
